Push Away The Screen Giveaway

9 Comments Giveaways, Push Away The Screen, Tampa

As a We Can! Community Partner, one of the Fit Kids Playground missions is promote reducing screen time among families. This seems like a simple concept, but as parents, we struggle with knowing how much is too much, when to say when and with technology becoming more rapidly integrated into homework, the lines can easily become blurred. And this week, April 30th, actually kicks off National Screen Free Week! Will your family be participating?

Fit Kids is launching a series of giveaways each month that might help you push away the screen and get you and your kids out of the house! Really simple. Turn off the TV, the computer, the video games first. Then go do something! Anything! Go outside. Play a board game. Talk with your kids. Go to a museum. Turn on some music. Color. If you can help set an example, all the best!

Raising a family can be expensive so we hope our giveaways might be a special treat to help you do something fun with the kiddos for an afternoon.

We’ve always limited screen time in our house but plan to go completely screen free for a week in June. It will be fun to see what adventures we enjoy!

We make sure to spend at least 2 hours outside everyday. Swimming is a favorite and so is jumpin on the trampoline!

We have lots of activities scheduled – dance, gym, softball, girl scouts. So, we try to keep busy! Oh, and no tv is allowed on school mornings!

We go out somewhere every day! It can be something close by like going to the pool or walking to Publix to pick up something, or it may be a festival or event, but we always find something to do outside the house and away from the TV.

I have a 6 yaer old and a 1 year old. We try to do different “inside” things during the week – we turn the music up and dance! We read books, play board games, or just play hide and seek in the house (this is so easy with the 1-year old!). On the weekends, we go to the park, ride bikes, play hopscotch on the front porch, or even just go for a “nature” walk out on the yard (the kids pick up branches from the yard and make a pile— they love it, and my yard gets cleaned up at the same time!)

I like to play basketball outside.

To reduce the amount of screen time my kids have, I try to turn off the tv when no one is watching. Sometimes you get so used to the background noise that you end up leaving it on. I also try to replace using tv as “down time ” with other mellow activities like reading books, coloring or playing a board game.

Everyday after work, I take Gracie, our one year old, out on our large screen porch. She loves it out there, with so much to do! From Lincoln logs, and books, to her cozy coupe car and ball pit, we are content for the entire evening. Most nights we eat dinner outside too! I want to share the outdoor experience with my child while she is young, so she grows up loving it as much as her daddy and I do! Every weekend we take her on the boat for an adventure on the river, we hit the playground once a week, and play my favorite… Sidewalk chalk every morning!
