Push Away The Screen & Head to Monster Jam Tampa!

8 Comments Uncategorized

Our PUSH AWAY THE SCREEN GIVEAWAY to kick off February 2013 will be a 4 pack of tickets to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam on Saturday, February 2 at 7pm PLUS Pit Party Passes from 2pm-5pm! The Party in the Pits is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on February 2, in the parking lot outside Raymond James Stadium. It gives fans the opportunity to get a view of the trucks up close and meet the drivers of the massive monster trucks. Additional tickets are available at any Ticketmaster outlet.

What a fun event to push away the screen! If you’ve never been to a Monster Jam, you are missing out! Approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, monster trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Speaking from experience, it’s a family friendly event that will keep kids captivated and excited!

At Fit Kids Playground, we encourage everyone to start pushing away that screen! According to Kids Health and the Kaiser Family Foundation, 8- to 18-year-olds watch about 4.5 hours of television a day. And the average kid spends 7 hours on all screen media combined (TV, videos, and DVDs, computer time outside of schoolwork, and video games).

We hope that more people will start to get their kids active with ANY activity and we know our Push Away the Screen Giveaways are the perfect events to do just that! We love our fit kids and can’t wait to hear more about how you keep ’em active and healthy!

We pushed away the screen by setting parental controls on the TV. Kids are not allowed to watch TV AT ALL during the week. We also help to encourage them to play outside by riding their bikes, jogging, and we also recently got a new puppy that they love to chase in the backyard!

And we of course set a good example! No TV, etc., while the kids are up!

Over this last year we have spent more time outside doing fun activities – Nia is danicing in 4 different classes and joined the dance team, we have been going to the park, swimming with the manatees, the zoo, bowling. I have joined ZUMBA at the dance studio that she dances at which is really motivating for her. I have also purchased the Zumba workout and she enjoys doing it too. 🙂 My goal for this year is to be fabulous and fourty while setting an example for her. 🙂

Our family loves to take long walks with the dog or bike rides. If we are limited on time we hang out in our back yard, jumping on the trampoline, weeding our garden, or playing in the pool. We live an active life style by keeping our children involved with sports soccer, swimming and gymnastics. Weekends are spent on the water snorkeling and boating. Outdoors is our favorite place to be!

We go to YMCA two or three days a week as a family. We also just got a puppy who needs frequent walks and lots of play time. She constantly reminds us that it’s to get up and play! Now that the weather is nice we try to do as much as we can outdoors.

My daughter is a competitive Irish dancer, so she exercises daily. My son swims and takes a gymnastics class. We’ve never allowed them to watch much TV (they each get 1 hour per week), and we limit time on their Nooks (unless they’re actually reading!).

We just started making J do a chore/chores before he gets to watch “a show”. Usually he does not do them, therefore, he does not get to watch TV:)

I just started barefoot running about a month ago, and my kids both started running with me! They were never interested in running before, I think it’s just the idea of trying something different. Whatever works!

I only allow my Children to watch TV at bedtime during the week. When they are all home from school they all get to take part in a physical activity of their choice. I have 3 boys and as a single dad I rotate between them making choices but they enjoy all the activities. This week we did boxing, riding bikes, soccer, “Tag”, and football. I also try to keep my kids entertained away from the TV by playing board games and enticing them to use their imagination by creating unique games when they are inside the house with each other. I love my children and feel as though a parent should be involved in their lives and that in no way means just sitting next to them watching TV.
