PeerFit Fitness Party!

No Comments Fit Kids, Free, Giveaways, Healthy Events, Push Away The Screen, Sports, St. Petersburg, Tampa

Ain’t no party like a PeerFit Party! I am so excited to help launch this awesome new app into Tampa! When I was first told about PeerFit, I checked them out and was blown away. I think that their app is really going to help people “fit” fitness into their busy schedules based on what they are looking to do!

Fitness is all the rage these days and I think that this app is right on when it comes to thinking about how we can fit fitness into our lives! I’ve downloaded the app and like seeing the reviews about classes and instructors. (I like to know what I am getting myself into!)

This weekend, Fit Kids Playground, will help bring a fun fitness party to Hyde Park Village, up on the rooftop of the parking garage above Restoration Hardware (Garage C). It will be led by celebrity fitness trainer Fitz Koehler. Come party with us and participate in her workouts and receive giveaways and more. It should be a fun afternoon!

Cirque du Soleil Inspires the Young Gymnast

No Comments Fit Kids, National, Push Away The Screen, Review, Sports, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Tampa Bay

Kooza Logo

I was thrilled to hear that Cirque du Soleil was returning to the Tampa Bay/ St.Pete area with a show I had not seen before, Kooza!

I was introduced to the amazing world of Cirque du Soleil by a friend who was obsessed with their performances. She had seen literally every show and was always going back for more! When we landed in Las Vegas for work, we went to see “O” at the Bellagio and I became hooked. I have now seen 6 different shows and can’t wait to see more!

No the I have a budding gymnast in my home who can’t get enough of gymnastics, I have a much deeper respect for the show and its talent. My daughter has only seen one Cirque du Soleil show, Saltimbanco, and it was enough to inspire her to persue gymnastics to the tune of 10 hours a week! (Yes, that can get expensive, but we will talk about that in a second.) All she does is flip over everything in my home, she does a cartwheel every chance she gets and she LOVES her gym days! Makes me so happy to know she is getting her “fit kids” exercise doing something she loves. That’s the most important thing.

Kooza will be in town for a limited time, starting on November 8th! (Tickets are still available online at The name KOOZA is inspired by the Sanskrit word “koza,” which means “box,” “chest” or “treasure,” and was chosen because one of the underlying concepts of the production is the idea of a “circus in a box.”

Kooza Chantale

The House Troupe burst into action at the top of the show. The act highlights include human pyramids, bodies flying through the air and a “crash bash”—a daring dive into a circle of fabric inspired by the “Nalukauq,” the traditional Inuit game of “Blanket Toss” and the landing mats used by firefighters.

Written and directed by David Shiner, KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil that combines two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendor and fragility, presented in a colorful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humor.

Several of the 53 performing artists in the show have received awards from important circus arts competitions. The show presents an unprecedented approach to the High Wire and a breathtaking Wheel of Death – an act that Cirque du Soleil has never before presented under the big top.

I cannot WAIT to see the show! And more importantly I cannot wait for my daughter to see the show too! Gymnasts are extremely dedicated to practice and hard work. Being that my daughter is only 6, she has chosen to work hard because she knows that the only way for her to get better is to practice!

AND… if you are in the Tampa Bay area and are looking to get your child involved in gymnastics, I would highly recommend the City of Tampa’s Tampa Gym and Dance program. They have 2 state of the art gymnasium facilities, one in New Tampa and one in Seminole Heights (Wayne Pappy Athletic Center), that are amazing and staff that is even more amazing! And the best part is that it is very affordable. They have classes ranging from Mommy and Me to a gymnastics team that competes in meets around the state. They typically have a waiting list so you can sign up here! Get your kids off the couch and push away that screen!

2012 CANDO Performance Gymnastics Team- Intermediate Group

And if you are looking for a Performance Team that can help your child take their gym or dance skills to the next level visit CANDO. CANDO (Children’s Athletic Network and Dance Opportunities) has show group dance teams and performance gymnastics teams that are based in Tampa.

Disclaimer: I was provided with tickets for the Cirque du Soleil show, Kooza, for my post. I was not provided any compensation for my recommendation of the City of Tampa’s Gym and Dance program or CANDO. All opinions are my own.
