Fit Kids Playground announces the first UnitedHealthcare Fit Kids Duathlon to be taking place on March 31st, 2012 in beautiful downtown Tampa! This race will be kicking off the point series for the Livestrong Youth Triathlon Series (YTS). This race course will also be the official Cigar City Brewing Criterium course that will take place throughout the rest of the day. Over 100 youths (under the age of 15) will be participating in this duathlon. Fit Kids Playground will be providing a fun family activity area with healthy snacks and more for all families who attend the races throughout the day!

About the Race

The youth duathlon will begin at 8 am in front of the Tampa Theater at 715 Franklin Street in downtown Tampa. The adult criterium cycling races begin at 11 am and run through the evening. An open 5K run is going to be offered in a 3 loop criterium course at 5:55 pm and is also being chip timed by our national timing coming in to professionally score the event. Duathlon awards will go to the winner of each age and gender from 8 to 18 and every youth participant will receive a finisher’s award, t-shirt, Cigar City ROOT BEER mug, Tampa Crit spoke cards, and Tampa Crit racing beads. Also, United Healthcare will be giving 100 racing style helmets randomly to youth in attendance.

Our youth duathlon will race on the same course the adults will race on later in the morning. Visit the Tampa Criterium’s Official Site for more information on the course. The youth duathlon is offered to kids from 8 to 18. This race will be staged in wave starts according to age and will be a very spectator friendly event for parents! Take advantage of allowing your kids the unique opportunity to race loop after loop on a 1K course in the closed streets of downtown Tampa. Your kids will truly feel like NASCAR stars on 2 wheels! We’ll see you there on Saturday, March 31, 2012, with the duathlon beginning at 8 am. All participants should arrive by 7 am.

Distances

Short Course: 1K run/3K bike/1K run 8 and 9 year olds

Long Course: 2K run/8K bike/2K run 10 to 18 year olds (race in waves by age)
