Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus present CircusFit for Fit Kids Everywhere!

No Comments #fitkids, Fit Kids, Giveaways, National, Push Away The Screen, Review, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, Tips

Each year, we go to see the Circus! I am always in awe of the performers and what they are able to do! This year, they come to America with a 90-city tour, that begins here in Tampa Bay with their new show: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus presents Legends! This show is set to let you eyes feast on fanciful and mysterious acts that will have you in amazement! This is still “the greatest show on Earth!”

My kids have visited the circus each year and it is always a new show when it comes to town. Never the same. Yet the acts in each show are just amazing to watch! They are all so talented and so athletic that I often wonder if my 4 and 8 year old gymnast will one day run away with the circus because they have a talent that they have learned from a young age!

I recently learned of a program that is supported by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Circus Fit! They have partnered with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition to help children remember how FUN it is to be FIT! They have a curriculum that it is FREE and available for download so that teachers and community leaders can implement bringing fitness, nutrition and healthy living to classrooms and after-school programs anywhere!

At Fit Kids Playground, we fully believe that fitness should be made fun and coming from a clown, childhood obesity is no laughing matter! This is a wonderful way for kids to want to have fun, be silly and get fit all at the same time! I hope that more teachers, preschool coordinators or community leaders learn about this opportunity and curriculum that is available to everyone for free. It is a great way to head to the circus and talk about how all the acts use healthy habits to keep them doing the amazing things that they can do.

If you haven’t got your tickets yet, an insiders tip is that opening night is typically less in cost, but there is only one show. There is also an additional add on this year to get a VIP ticket to the Ringmaster Zone! This is a limited ticket and allows you access to a personal and once-in-a-lifetime experience that will have your family walking with clowns, petting elephants, shaking hands with the Ringmaster and standing in the infamous motorcycle Globe of Steel! How fun!

And of course, for any show, arrive an hour early for an all access Pre-Show pass to meet the clowns, watch jugglers and mingle with the shows stars! Take lots of pictures and be sure to show them off to your friends! It is really like you were a part of the circus!

We have been provided with a family-4-pack for tickets to the Tampa Bay show happening January 1-5 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. 8 shows in all. We are so excited to help kids push away the screen with “the greatest show on Earth!”*

Disclosure: I have been provided with tickets for my family as well as a family-four pack to a Tampa show.

I have always loved the circus. Everything about it was fun. My Dad always took us and we made the most of the day! Also, back in Wisconsin, I had the opportunity to visit Barnum, WI and actually be a part of the circus for a day! I told my Mom, I wanted to runaway with the circus…but I think she called my bluff as I had no clear talents to allow me to do that. But what if I did? Would she have let me?

At the BUILT TO AMAZE Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Media Day event last week, I got a chance to see what behind the scenes circus people were really like. I think the public has a skewed perception of what “running away with the circus” is really like. Yes, first you must have a true talent to be a part of the show, but you also have to be a super dedicated, hard working individual who is passionate about performing and what your role is in the circus. I was so impressed with everyone whom I spoke with that it got me thinking about sometime else…

Let’s discuss the importance of parents fostering a love of an activity in our children that might one day allow them the opportunity to run away with the circus. I look at my daughter, Mia, who is 7 and is a member of the Tampa Gym and Dance Gymnastics team. She spends over 8 hours a week practicing. She is also beginning to learn the importance of healthy eating too. She is dedicated (yes, even at an early age) and she is willing to practice hard so that she can get better at what she does. I hope she will be inspired to always have a love for doing this fun activity and will also lead her to living ahealthy lifestyle too.

Above, I am pictured above with Elliana Grace, the 20 year old human cannonball…yes, that is what I said, THE HUMAN CANNONBALL. That was how she introduced her self. She was so impressive, that all I could think about when we were talking was that THIS could be Mia in 13 years!

I learned that she had grown up in the circus, literally. Her mother ran a circus in St. Louis and before she could remember, she was doing ariel gymnastics, horseback riding and lots of tumbling! Excited about having the opportunity to travel around the USA and Canada and Mexico by train, doing something she lows. That was the key. You could see it in her eyes. She enjoyed this whole experience- from living on a train to seeing the country to meeting new people! And, this was her first time ever being shot out of a cannon in front of an audience!

We talked for a while l offer about how important good physical health is to be a part of this team. She eats healthy and has a practice routine that is her full time job. It’s impressive that she, at 20, has found something she loves and is willing to peruse it as a career.

I hope that we all can foster a love of an activity in our children’s early years for them to be as passionate as Elliana is about what she is doing. It started when she was young. It always starts young. Good habits start young. Healthy habits start young. A little bit at a time.

Being that today is January 1st, and New Year’s resolutions are among us, I would like to hear what you all will be doing to foster healthy fit kids in your families this year! Will you try a new sport? Will you do an activity WITH your kids? Will you give them the opportunity to try something new that THEY want to try? Anything to get our kids off the couch and to push away the screen!! Once kids find something they enjoy doing, it’s hard to pry them away from doing it.

Our first PUSH AWAY THE SCREEN GIVEAWAY of 2013 will be a 4 pack of tickets to the BUILT TO AMAZE Ringling Brothers and Barum & Bailey Circus on Sunday, January 6 at 5pm.
